US Consumer Behavior in Online Buying

Online buying has increased in demands presently because the benefit from convenience in both sellers and buyers. And online marketing also requires lower costs that could reach wide audiences faster.

According to the finding from Pew Internet & American Life Project, 78 percent of American consumers search their product information through website before buying decision. Moreover, 66 percent of them buy online and 32 percent make comments and suggestions about products they bought in order to provide information for future customers. Additionally, the eMarketer company in New York has conducted a survey about online consumer behavior and revealed the reasons why consumers prefer online buying as follow. First is time saving since they do not need to visit stores (73%), second is the variety of products (67%), third is ability to compare price (59%), forth is crowd avoiding (58%), and last is cheaper price than in-store products (55%). For all these reasons, many products such as cloths, jewelries, accessories, foods, or even home furniture are likely to appear in online forms via Internet.

Online sale in home decorating products

Home decorating products in USA has been increased in sale by 6.4 billion US dollars, about 6.6% in 2010, or was considered 7.75% of total furniture product sold in USA. Product that gained highest sale volume was bed, which was about 70% of all decoration items.

To sell furniture and decoration products online, sellers need to manage transaction via websites called “Virtual Marketplace”. In USA there are about 30 home decoration websites, and Amazon.com gains highest sale volume with value of 32,200 million US dollars, follow by Overstock.com with the value of 11,000 million US dollars.

The Future of Online products in USA

Online business in USA has grown continuously with average about 10% since the past 10 years and been expected continuously grow in the future. In 2010 online sale was about 142.5 billion US dollars. This value was not included sale from tourism service. For 2011 sale volume is positively projected to be 171.5 billion US dollars or about 12.5% increase.
