Bang Sai Products to Highlight Culture of Thailand

Thailand Arts and Crafts at Florence, Italy

The Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Sacict), a non-profit public organization of the Commerce Ministry, markets goods made by Ayutthaya's Bang Sai Arts and Crafts Training Centre under the patronage of Her Majesty's the Queen under the Sacict brand.

The strategy over the next five years, according to Sacict’s CEO, Pimpapaan Chansilpa, is to upgrade the quality of Thai traditional arts and crafts through design.

Products will be grouped into three types: traditional and culture for customers admiring the arts, regular living and modern living for the new generation who appreciate modern designs.

This year the centre will also be supporting craftsmen to develop their skills and to train them to make products that match market demand and command higher prices.

According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Thailand ranked the 15th largest exporter of arts and crafts with a value of US$449 million. It was also the 25th largest importer of this group of products with a value of $250 million.

Ms Pimpapaan said the centre this year launched products under the "hill tribe" theme with bold, contrast colors and silver decoration. The products were launched at the International Handicraft Fair in Florence held last week.
