DTN holds seminar on boosting Thai textiles to be the best in ASEAN

CHIANG MAI, 12 March 2012  - The Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN) has organized a seminar on the promotion of Thai textile export, hoping to push Thailand to become the number one textile producer in ASEAN soon.

Mrs. Srirat Rastapana, DTN Director-General, said the seminar was held at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel in Chiang Mai province in cooperation with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Office of Commercial Affairs Chiang Mai. The objective of the event was to increase the potential of Thai hand-woven textiles and products from connected industries.

She indicated that the ASEAN economic integration in 2015 would create a single and large market, which would tempt other non-members to establish more trade deals with the ASEAN countries, including Thailand.

The Director-General believed traders from Thailand would have no difficulties doing business with foreigners, given their skills, creativity and friendly nature. She also highlighted the versatility and uniqueness of Thai hand-woven textiles, which could be improved to compete with other producers in this region and gain global recognition.

Mrs. Srirat showed her confidence that textiles from Thailand could become one of ASEAN’s best products through continuous development efforts.
